A little boy sends his dad, a scientific genius, to his death and then the grandfather preserves his son’s brain for humanity’s sake, later putting it in the head of a 10-foot tall robot. Why did the grandfather put his son’s brain in the body of an enormous steel waterproof robot in the first place? Ben, a former American slave and a cook in Santa Anna’s army, maintained that he had seen Crockett’s body surrounded by about sixteen dead bodies of Mexicans, one of whom had Crockett’s knife in him. I’d like to have variety so only one person can do a specific movie or an actor in a movie, but I will stretch a point. I just wait for enough people to recommend a specific show and then I go back and sample it. I’m not a fan of extreme close-ups unless they’re there for a very specific reason – e.g. an extreme reaction to something. There are some minor gliches with the graphics where at a distance it looks like there is no water at all and the aircraft carriers are just floating in air, and random white cubes appear if you blow up something near a flag (only happend to me twice) and the soldier class for the Marines and the Japanise are exactly the same except the rifle is a different color so that kinda bugged me. We always say we’ll remember someone, but in this case, for me at least it’s very true. The film: I had seen it a couple of times before. The new series featured scripts by Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, and George R. R. Martin, The episodes were both remakes of episodes from the original and brand new teleplays. We took my grandmother to the Lido Theatre in Pacific Palisades to see Billy Wilder’s new movie ONE TWO THREE and then a sneak preview. The 2004 version of The Alamo does have what may be two glaring departures from history, both of which it shares with the 1960 version. It is difficult to say why the 1960 version of The Alamo departs so from history, even though Wayne and Grant did a great deal of research. In examining both the 1960 and the 2004 versions of The Alamo, it is curious that in some respects the 2004 version of The Alamo evoked more controversy than the 1960 version (at least in the portrayal of the battle). This has led to a plethora of experimental research to determine the true effects. Others attacked it for the less than flattering views of some of the Alamo defenders, even though these less than flattering views were also based on historical fact. She would also guest star on such series as Have Gun Will Travel, The Defenders, The Fugitive, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Hec Ramsey featured Richard Boone (of Have Gun Will Travel fame) as Hec, a former gunfighter currently serving as a deputy to young Sheriff Oliver B. Stamp (Richard Lenz) in the turn of the century West. Adam was the sombre, serious son who was quick with his wits and his gun. The novel focused on a group of fugitives who invade a home and hold the family hostage. It ran for three years in syndication (ironically running one episode longer than the original). He did a good deal of research on the battle itself. While John Wayne and James Edward Grant did considerable research into the battle, the resulting film would be extraordinarily inaccurate in its depiction of the battle. The first such movie about the Battle of the Alamo was The Immortal Alamo, a silent film made in 1911 and now thought to be lost. I am waiting for the comments and you can still predict (I accept it until the final conclusion and then we can see how many rounds you needed to find out). Nineteen eighty seven would see the debut of what could be the most successful TV show revival of all time. Time to play them, I guess. The film is zany and joyously drug-filled, featuring lots of great music and plenty of scenes of Bernard ogling women and rolling his eyes at all the silly adults. While in Hamilton, Rae became a founding member of the Hamilton Scientific Association, which became the Hamilton Association for the Advancement of Literature, Science and Art, one of Canada’s oldest scientific and cultural organizations. She never tries to play the cheeky servant, she’s just a simple, yet very stubborn, brave woman. Every so often the play gets revived on Broadway. The fact is, Meryl often gets parts when peopl say: why her (again)?
I’d almost say all of them, but since I’m biased, I’d go with Hepburn as the nominee most people seem to love. Who do you think is the most popular nominee from various? Best Actress 1976: Faye won the Oscar this year, and I would say most agree with that but I think Sissy and Liv have their supporters too. I would go with Liv personally, but Faye is fantastic. Personally, I admire her very much. They both wonderfully showed how much these couple tries to see God’s purposes in everything. We did try to see if he wanted to write an episode of CHEERS the first season and he graciously declined. Another episode might be a legal drama, with one of the Cartwrights forced to defend an innocent man. Even when she’s not there, her presence in the life and actions of the others if very strong. Despite not having much screentime, everything is about her and the effects of her actions on her family. She’s completely three-dimensional, totally believable person with natural actions and fears inside her soul. 2. Geraldine Page in Hondo: The most grounded and natural performance of the bunch, Geraldine Page gives a warm and balanced performance as Angie Lowe. She becomes one with her character and we don’t see Meryl Streep on the screen anymore, only Lindy Chamberlain, a not too likeable and weird character. In the ’70s when there was a golden age of TV comedy (ALL IN THE FAMILY, MASH, MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, BOB NEWHART SHOW, MAUDE) the one show that was always overlooked was THE ODD COUPLE and yet it was one of my favorites. Page’s performance builds and builds, it starts out subtle, and gradually gains more emotion. She just feels like a real person, with no huge dramatic scenes or showy moments to be found. Alvy Singer, the role Woody Allen played in Annie Hall, was just such a compulsive, judgmental spoilsport, and Allen’s original title for that film was Anhedonia–the lack of the capacity for experiencing pleasure. She, a box office heavyweight with a flair for fluffy rom-coms, showed considerable talent in soapy melodrama. The film is indelibly linked in my mind with spring and, regardless of its Labor Day setting, the glow of May can be observed in every scene. Newman’s screen acting career would slow down in the Eighties, although he still made several successful movies, including Fort Apache the Bronx, The Colour of Money, The Hudsucker Proxy, and Road to Perdition. With the close of the Eighties, the number of TV show revivals would slow down a great deal. Not surprisingly, 1989 would see more TV show revivals. Two of these were revivals of sitcoms that debuted off the networks.
A new version of another Jack Webb series, The New Adam-12, also debuted that season to little success. It debuted on NBC in 1960 on Saturday night. The 1960 movie of The Alamo moves at a somewhat slow pace in the beginning, so much so that it may well have tested the patience of even audiences in the Sixties (who presumably had longer attention spans than those today). Despite Juan Seguín’s major role in the Second Battle of the Alamo, he appears only briefly in the 1960 version of the movie and plays no real role in the battle. Gaming machines are found in casinos (approximately one in each major city), pubs and clubs in some states (usually sports, social, or RSL clubs). Following retirement from the Marine Corps, Bill and June moved back to the Hills, where they’ve remained ever since. Detective Lenny Briscoe (Jerry Orbach Law and Order): Television has seen many police detectives, but perhaps none were as beloved as Lenny Briscoe. As for myself, I would love to see Hec Ramsey and The Snoop Sisters again, not to mention the opening credits of The NBC Mystery Movie (a man in silhouette with a flashlight accompanied by the theme written by Henry Mancini). An often down on their luck rock group, The Monkees each had their own distinct personality. Peter was the Gracie Allen of the group, not terribly bright but terribly kind hearted. The performance: The character was created for a different kind of girl, but at least we can all agree that Audrey brings a lot of class to it. Laurence Harvey is not an actor who’s admired by many (my beloved Jane Fonda was not one of his fans, either as it seemed) but I think he was able to be really great and this performance of his is the best I’ve seen from him (besides Room at the Top). The Year in Review: 2002 was a banner year for this category, with four of the five performers giving truly fantastic yet vastly different performances. 1. Ethel Waters in Pinky: I had an easy choice in this very weak year for the Supporting Actress category, with Ethel Waters’s soulful work as Dicey Johnson coming out victorious. When Bill graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1961, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. If someone wants to pick, say, The Hustler as Best Picture of 1961, someone else could still pick Paul Newman as Best Actor in The Hustler, and make an entirely different case. In 1961, the show moved from ABC to NBC and to its familiar Sunday night time slot. Since The NBC Mystery Movie, its various series have been rerun, most notably on The CBS Late Night Movie in the Eighties. The final Sunday night standby on television in the Sixties was Bonanza. The Cúirt Literary Brunch was certainly a very special morning in Vina Mara last Sunday where I shared the platform with Geraldine Mitchell, a very, fine poet whose work I greatly admire and Edward O’Dwyer whose debut poetry collection is one to watch out for. For years before that he was a character actor. Page’s onscreen charisma and grace is on full display, and you can see where this actress could grow to be one of Oscar’s favorites.
From the Sixties into the Seventies Newman would be one of the most successful actors of all time, appearing in several classic films. Was Geraldine overacting or was she just incredibly INTO the character and properly playing the emotionally-disturbed card? They keep you safe from harm while you enjoy your favorite games. To celebrate Merv’s 50th anniversary ( the famed talk show host launched his series in the spring of 1965 ) Get-TV will feature a selection of 50 hand-picked episodes with such guest stars as Robert F. Kennedy, Carl Reiner, Joan Crawford, John Wayne, Jerry Lewis, Sammy Davis Jr., George Carlin, the Everly Brothers, Totie Fields and Jayne Mansfield. The New Gidget featured an entirely new cast (indeed, as Gidget Caryn Richman looked very little like Sally Fields), but at the same time it seemed to draw upon the original series for inspiration, with Gidget and Moondoggie now married. In an attempt to fill the gap left by Dan Blocker’s death, David Canary returned as Candy and Tim Matheson joined the cast as Griff King. Sea Hunt had been a successful syndicated series that ran from 1958 to 1961. The new series was a re-imagining of the original, with Ron Ely in the role that Lloyd Bridges made famous.
There were other movies that were released that didn’t have the star power, the budget, the Red Sea parting. There was that big moment of suspense.
